
Claire Dawson joined the CGS Foundation Board in August 2021. She has broad experience across the government, corporate and community sectors and is currently Director of the National Security Team in Cabinet Division at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C).
Prior to joining PM&C, Claire was Executive Manager of Community Investment at the Commonwealth Bank with responsibility for the bank’s ‘Next Chapter’ program focused on addressing domestic and financial abuse. Other professional experience includes more than 20 years working in federal government, consulting and campaigning including 4 years working for Prime Minister John Howard. More recently Claire was Director of Government Affairs for the Marriage Equality Campaign and the Indigenous Referendum Campaign (Yes23).
Claire holds a BA (majors in international relations, government and art history) from the University of Sydney, a Graduate Certificate in Business Management from the ANU, and is a graduate of the AICD Company Directors Course. She is married to Gary and together they have 4 children – Edwina, Will (both former CGS students), Hannah and Lucy.
